Theodore "Ted" Francis LINTON (1917-1970) was the son of Charles "Charlie" Edward LINTON (1890-1958) & Annie Lucretia CRONK (1888-1956). Charles, was 26 and his mother, Annie, was 29. Ted was named after his uncle Francis "Frank" Charles LINTON (1844-1911) [ii]
Ted was born and raised on his father’s family 64 acer farm. He was born in his mother and fathers front West 2nd floor bedroom and was delivered by "Aunt" Annie Mae Young, a mid-wife, living on Parker's Lane. The Linton Farm House was a white two-story log framed, wood planked, gray slate roof, with two garrets and two dirt root cellars. The farm house was built in 1877, by Ted's grandfather, John Edward LINTON (1838-1901) and his brother Francis "Frank" Charles LINTON (1844-1911) architect and contractor. The slate and wood plank siding were punched in Falmouth, Virginia. The farm was in three sections with a 48 acres improve Dairy farm with orchard and two wood lots of 10 acres and 3 acres adjacent to Ted’s great-grandfather Doctor Lewis Colbert LINTON (1803-1876)’s Walnut Grove Farm and his grandfather’s John Edward LINTON (1839-1901)’s West Farm. The 48-acer track was originally George Washington’s orchard section of his River Farm Plantation which had a wooden barn on it. Four large black cherry trees were still located on the tract and 40 plum trees in four rows were between the new farm house and the Washington’s old barn. There were two springs on the tract. [iii]
The farm was located on South Branch of Little Hunting Creek in the Mount Vernon District of Fairfax County, Virginia. The local area was known through the years as Little Hunting Creek in the 1600's; Clifton's Neck in the early 1700's; Sheridan's Point mid 1700's; Mount Vernon Plantation and River Farm Plantation in mid-1700's; Little Hunting Creek Plantation early 1800's; Walnut Farm Plantation in the mid 1800's; Beginning in 1898 the local area became known as Fort Hunt or Riverside Park and Hunter's Station. Today it is known as Mount Vernon. The Linton Farm is location on Linton Lane. Just off of Fort Hunt Road where Fort Hunt Elementary School is now located on Linton Lane.

The school was run by Miss Kate SNOWDEN. Kirk and his father both had “Miss Kate” as their teacher. It was located on Pointe Road, now Fort Hunt Road between (president day) Cedar Dale Lane and Chadwick Avenue. The Quaker school was named for Captain William SNOWDEN who had given the land for its construction in 1870. It was a one-room school at first, with a pot-bellied stove, oiled wood floors, a well and a "necessary" house outside. In 1917-18, a second room was added. Miss Kate Snowden, turned the school over to Fairfax County in 1928. [iv]

The 48-acre Linton Dairy Farm sold their fresh milk to the 395-acre Thompson's Dairy, which operated from 1869 to 1971 at the Hollin Hall Station on the Mount Vernon Trolley Line.
