Arthur LINTON (1590-1646) Laird of Caberston & Isabella CURRIE (1592-?) were the 7th great-grandparents of Charles Edward LINTON (1890-1958) and the 8th great-grandparents of Kirk Louis LINTON (1914-1987)

Arthur LINTON (1590-1646) was the son of John LINTON (1560-1632) Baron Caberston & Lady Rebecca CABERSTON (1565-1632).  Arthur was born in 1590 in Caberston, West Lintone, Parish Peebles, Scotland and died in 1646 in Carlisle, Cumberland, England, at age 56. [i]

In my research on documents referring to Authur, he is referred to as Laird of Caberston, not like his father and son are referred to as Barron.

According to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: Laird (/ˈlɛərd/) is a Scottish word for minor lord (or landlord) and is a designation that applies to an owner of a large, long-established Scottish estate. In the traditional Scottish order of precedence, a laird ranked below a baron and above a gentleman. This rank was held only by those holding official recognition in a territorial designation by the Lord Lyon King of Arms. They are usually styled [name] [surname] of [lairdship]. However, since "laird" is a courtesy title, it has no formal status in law.

Arthur married Isabella CURRIE (1592-1630) in 1610 in Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland, England. Isabella was born in 1592 in Caberston, West Linton, Parish Peebles, Scotland and died in 1622 Carlisle, Cumberland, England. [ii]

Arthur & Isabella had four known children from this marriage:

i,  John LINTON (1616-1672) was born in 1616 in Carlisle, Cumberland, England and died in 1662 in Carlisle, Cumberland, England, at age 46. John married Margaret HOLME (1624-?) on December 3, 1663, at Saint Mary’s Church Carlisle, Cumberland, England. Margaret was born about 1616 in Holme, Cumberland, England and died in Carlisle, Cumberland, England. [iii]

ii.  Roger LINTON (1619-1681) Earl of Tauney was born on January 8, 1619, in  Parrish Lowe Crosby, Carlisle, Cumberland, England and died in 1681 in Tauney, Essex, England, at age 59. Roger married Lady Isabella de TAUNEY (1629-?) of Tauney, Essex, England.

iii. Arthur LINTON (1622-1696) Baron Lowe Crosby was born on January 8, 1622, in Parrish Lowe Crosby, Carlisle, Cumberland, England and died in 1696 in Parish Lowe Crosby, County Cumberland, England, at age 74.  Arthur married Elizabeth KIRKBRIDE (5) in 1640 in Carlisle, Cumberland, England. Elizabeth was the daughter of Lancelote KIRKBRIDE (1592–1651) who was born and died in Kirkoswald, Cumberland, England. Elizabeth was born in 1622 in Kirkoswald, Cumberland, England and died in 1670 in Wigton, Parish Lowe Crosby, Cumberland, England, at age 48.

iv. William LINTON was born in 1630 in Caberston, West Lintone, Parish Peebles, Scotland and died in Tynemouth, Northumberland, England. [iv]

“We exist because of our ancestors, let’s try not to forget them”

"That’s a beautiful and profound statement. Our ancestors’ experiences, struggles, and achievements have shaped the world we live in today. It’s important to honor and remember them, as they are a part of our history and identity”
