Thomas Jefferson BIRD (1861-1931) was the grandfather of Evelyn Virginia BIRD Linton (1922-2012). Thomas had three signers of the Declaration of Independence, in his family tree. They were Justice James WILSON (1742-1798) and Colonel George ROSS (1730-1779) also Chief Judge George READ (1733-1798).
The Declaration of Independence was first publicly read in front of the Pennsylvania State House (now Independence Hall) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on July 4, 1776.
Only two Representatives signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1775, John HANCOCK (1737-1799) the President of the Continental Congress and Charles THOMSON the sectary. The rest of the 56 signers, representing the Thirteen American Colonies, signed on August 2, 1776.
Justice James WILSON (1742-1798)
James WILSON (1742-1798) signed the Declaration of Independence as one of the delegates for the Colony of Pennsylvania. James signed on August 2, 1776 at the Pennsylvania State House (now Independence Hall) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. James also signed the United States Constitution on September 17, 1787.
James was the son of William WILSON (1716-1758) & Alison LANSDALE (1716-1788), both of Caskardy, Shire of Fife, Scotland. James was born on September 14, 1742 in Caskardy, Shire of Fife, Scotland. James emigrated in 1766 to America and arrived at Boston Harbor, Massachusetts.
On November 5, 1771, James married Rachel BIRD (1749-1786), the daughter of Ironmaster William BIRD (1706-1761), founder of Birdsboro and “Brigitte” Bridgetta HULING (1710–1792). They were married in the Saint Gabriel's Episcopal Church, Amity Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania. Their wedding reception was held at Rachel’s father's Bird Mansion in Birdsboro.
James died on August 21, 1798 in the Horniblow Tavern, in Edenton, Chowan County, North Carolina, while on a trip to see his friend and business partner Colonel Mark BIRD (1739-1812)
James was the 2nd great-granduncle of Thomas Jefferson BIRD (1861-1931) and the 3rd great-granduncle of Jeff Augustus “Gus” BIRD (1893-1954) also the 4th great-granduncle of Evelyn Virginia BIRD Linton (1922-2012).
Colonel George ROSS (1730-1779)
Colonel George ROSS (1730-1779) signed the Declaration of Independence for the Colony of Pennsylvania, on August 2, 1776, at the Pennsylvania State House (now Independence Hall) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
George was the son of George Aeneas ROSS (1679-1753) & Anna Catherine VAN GEZEL (1689-1748). George was born on May 10, 1730 in New Castle, New Castle County, Delaware. George died on July 14, 1779 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.
On April 3, 1773, George married Mary BIRD (1753-1813) of the daughter of Ironmaster William BIRD (1706-1761), founder of Birdsboro and “Brigitte” Bridgetta HULING (1710–1792). Mary was also the sister of George’s business partner ironmaster Colonel Mark BIRD (1738-1812).
George was the 2nd great-granduncle of Thomas Jefferson BIRD (1861-1931) and the 3rd great-granduncle of Jeff Augustus “Gus” BIRD (1893-1954) also the 4th great-granduncle of Evelyn Virginia BIRD Linton (1922-2012).
Chief Justice George READ (1733-1798)
Chief Justice George READ (1733-1798) signed the Declaration of Independence for the Colony of Delaware on August 2, 1776 at the Pennsylvania State House (now Independence Hall) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
George was the son of John READ (1700-1756) & Mary HOWELL (1710-1784) the emigrants from Ireland and Wales. George was born on September 17, 1733 in New Munster, Cecil County, Maryland and died on September 21, 1798, in New Castle, New Castle County, Delaware.
On January 11, 1763, George married Gertrude ROSS (1732-1802), (the sister of Colonel George ROSS (1730-1779) in the Immanuel Church, in New Castle County, Delaware.
George was the 2nd great-granduncle of Thomas Jefferson BIRD (1861-1931) and the 3rd great-granduncle of Jeff Augustus “Gus” BIRD (1893-1954) also, the 4th great-granduncle of Evelyn Virginia BIRD Linton (1922-2012).
