Mounce Mouns JONES (1663–1727) & Ingaborg YOCUM (1663–1735)

 

Mounce Mouns JONES (1663-1727), (1) was the son of Jonas NILSSON-JONES (1620–1693) emigrant (2) & Gertrude GUNNAR (1636–1695). (3)

Mounce was baptized in the Dutch Reformed Church on January 8, 1663, in the Dutch Aronameck Colony, Tinicum Island, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.  (4) Mounce died on March 29, 1727, in Morlatton Colony, Amity Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania, (5) at age 64, and was buried on March 30, 1727, in Morlatton Dutch Colony Cemetery, Amity Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania. (6)

Mounce married Ingaborg YOCUM, (1663-1735) (7) in 1683 in the Aronameck Colony, Philadelphia County,  Pennsylvania. (8)  Ingaborg was the daughter of Peter Joachim YOCUM (1623-1654) the emigrant born in 1623 in Örebro, Orebro, Sweden and died on July 27, 1654, in the New Amsterdam Coloney, Manhattan, New York. &  & Ella STILLE (1634-1718). Ella was born in 1634 in Humloe, Uppland, Sweden and died January 22, 1718 at Swedesboro, Raccoon Creek, Greenwich, Gloucester County, New Jersey.

Ingaborg was born in 1663 in the Aronameck Colony, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, (9) and died on May 7, 1735, in the Morlatton Colony,  Amity Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania, (10) at age 72, and was buried in Berks County, Pennsylvania. (11)

 

         Mounce & Ingaborg had thirteen known children:

Margaret JONES (1691–1775); Peter JONES (1693–1739); Christina JONES (1695–1738); Andrew JONES (1697–1747); Nicholas JONES (1697–1776); Jonas JONES (1698–1777); Magdalene JONES (1699–1749); Maudlin JONES (1702–?); Bridgitta JONES (1704–?); Peter JONES (1705–1773).

 

  1. Margaret JONES (1691-1757) (12) was born in 1691 in Aronameck, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, (13) died on April 2, 1757, at Juniata Island, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, (14) at age 66, and was buried in 1775 in Losh Run, Penn Township, Perry County, Pennsylvania.

Margaret married Marcus Lars HULING (1684-1757) (15) son of Marcus Lauren HULING (17) & Brigitta DANIELSSON, (18) in 1710 in New Castle, New Castle County, Delaware.(16) Marcus was born in 1684 in Putshack, Waterford Township, Gloucester County, New Jersey, (19) died on April 2, 1757, in Morlatton, Amity Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania, (20) at age 73, She was  buried after April 2, 1757 in the Saint Gabriel's Episcopal Church Cemetery, Morlatton, Amity Township (now Douglassville), Berks County, Pennsylvania. (14)

 

ii. Peter JONES was born in 1693 in Aronameck Colony, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania and died on August 25, 1739, in Amity Township., Berks County, Pennsylvania, at age 46.

 

        iii. Peter Mansson JONES (21)  was born on March 8, 1693, in the Aronameck Colony, Tinicum Island, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania (22) and died on February 6, 1773, in Amity Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania, at age 79.

Peter married Elizabeth Henry (22) on October 4, 1714, in Amity Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania.(22) Elizabeth was born in 1697 in Pennsylvania and died in 1740 in Amity Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania, at age 43.

Peter next married Ruth Henton (23) on July 4, 1744, in Amity Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania. Ruth was born on June 1,  1723 in Berks County, Pennsylvania and died in 1774 in Amity Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania, at age 51.

 

iv.  Christina JONES was born in 1695 in the Aronameck Colony, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania and died in 1738, at age 43.

 

v.  Andrew JONES (24) was born in 1697 in the Aronameck Colony, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania and died in 1747 in Cumberland County, New Jersey, at age 50. Andrew married Dorothy Goucher on October 8, 1736, in Berks County, Pennsylvania.

 

vi.  Nicholas JONES(23) was born in 1697 in the Aronameck Colony, Tinicum Island, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania and died in 1776 in Amity Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania, at age 79.

 

        vii. Jonas JONES was born on September 23, 1698, in Aronameck Colony, Philadelphia County, PA. and died on January 27, 1777, in Amity Twp., Berks County, Pennsylvania, at age 78.

 

        viii. Magdalene JONES(25)  was born in 1699 in Aronameck Colony, Tinicum Island, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. (26) and died on February 27, 1750, in Craney Island, Smith Creek, Augusta                        County, Virginia., (27) at age 51.

Magdalene married Andrew BIRD Iron Master, (28) son of Andrew BIRD (30) and Mary Katrun COVERT-COOVERS-Kuver-Koevers, (31) in 1718 in the Swedish Colony, Berks County, Pennsylvania.(29) Andrew was born in 1702 in Hopewell, Millstone River, Raritan, Somerset County, New Jersey, (32) He died on February 27, 1749 at Craney Island, Smith Creek, Augusta County, Virginia. (33) at age 47, and was buried in 1749 in Tenth Legion, Rockingham County, Virginia.

 

  1. Maudlin JONES was born in 1702 in Aronameck Colony, Tinicum Island, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.

 

  1. Andrew Jones (23) was born in 1702 and died in 1747 in Cum County, New Jersey, USA, at age 45.

 

  1. Bridgitta JONES (23) was born in 1704 in Aronameck Colony, Tinicum Island, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.

Below: Home of Mounce and Ingabo JONES, built 1716 in Amity Township. It is the oldest known house in Berks County. Mounce's father, Jonas Nilsson, was a Swedish soldier who accompanied Governor Printz to the short-lived colony of New Sweden in 1643. After the Dutch and then the English took over the colony, some Swedes, including Mounce and Ingabo, pushed into the back country following the Delaware and Schuylkill Rivers. It thus happened that the first Europeans to settle in Berks County are descendants of Sweden's American colonists. Historic Preservation Trust of Berks County.
