There are many different “Common Ancestors” between the family trees of Kirk Louis LINTON (1914-1987) and Evelyn Virginia BIRD Linton (1922-2012).
Sir Knight John de RADCLIFFE (1454–1497) "Knight of the Shire" of Ordsall, Lancashire and Radcliffe & Lady Elizabeth BRERETON (1458–1497) are the Common Ancestors between our Linton and Bird family tree. They are the 12th great-grandparents of Charles Edward Linton (1890-1958); 11th great-grandparents of Clara Myrtle GREY-SADLER Bird (1900-1988); 13th great-grandparents of Kirk Louis Linton (1914-1987) and the 12th great-grandparents of Evelyn Virginia BIRD Linton (1922-2012).
John RADCLIFFE (1454–1497) was born in 1454, in Ordsall Hall, Lancaster, Nottinghamshire, England. John was the son of Sir Knight William RADCLIFFE (1436–1498) Knight of Shire & Lady Jane de TRAFFORD (1437–1490).
The Royal Manor of Radcliffe, a site near the confluence of the rivers Irwell and Roch, became the seat of a wealthy and powerful family who took the name ‘de Redclyffe’ from the red river cliff nearby. They built a series of manor houses, a great hall, Pele tower and church. Today, St. Mary’s Church and the ruins of the Pele tower are the only visible remains.
On January 18, 1473, John married Lady Elizabeth BRERETON (1458–1497) at Ordsall Hall, Manchester, Lancashire, England. Elizabeth was the daughter of Sir Knight William de BRERETON (1414–1456) & Lady Philippa HULSE (1415–1463).
John RADCLIFFE was knighted in 1479. Sir Knight John RADCLIFFE (1454-1497) became the Knight of the Shire of Ordsall, Lancashire and Radcliffe Shires. From the first Parliaments of England which began in the middle of the medieval period, which started with Simon de Montfort's Parliament, each county sent two Knights of the Shire as members of Parliament to represent the interests of the county, until 1826 when the number of knights from Yorkshire was increased to four. John died on April 12, 1497, Ordsall, Lancaster, Nottinghamshire, England, at age 43, and was buried in April 1497 in the Manchester Cathedral, Manchester, England.
