Obituary: Ora Gail MARTIN Bird (1916-2010)

"On May 5, 2010, our loving Mother and Grandmother, Gail Bird, was called home to our Heavenly Father at age 93. Affectionately known to many as Nanny Bird, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Frank Bird, Sr., on June 23, 1993. She is survived by her three children Frank and Lorene Bird of Houston, Richard and Mary Bird of Austin and Frances and Gerald Crooks of Leander. Also surviving are her two brothers Virgil Martin of Port Lavaca and Don and Doris Martin of Beaumont. Nanny Bird's greatest joy in life was her Faith in Christ and the love for her 13 Grandchildren, 39 Great-grandchildren and 10 Great-Great Grandchildren. It was through her kind and patient ways that many of us could witness an example God's unconditional love in our lives. Her dedication to following his teachings were an inspiration to all her knew her and will always be light for our own paths. She was a member of Hyde Park Baptist Church for over 60 years. Along with her husband, she taught Sunday School for over 45 years and also baked desserts for the church kitchen for over 15 years. In her later years, she became a member of the Prayer Warriors, who were a close knit group of elders that conducted daily prayer meetings and bible lessons. Nanny Bird touched all of us in a special way. It was the way she lived her life that showed us the true meaning of Love. She will always be carried in our hearts and may we continue to show others the love she gave to us." 5 (5)
